First… I have to get something out of my system….
*Okay*
I’ll be completely honest. I did not think I would like this book based off of the description. Then my dear friend Lindsey gave me her little version of a non-spoilery synopsis. I think she said something like “This is a nod to beauty and the beast — but it is so much more. What the characters have to go through in this book is insane.”
So I’m thinking… okay… if it is that intense, I’ll give it a go.
Boy oh boy, Lindsey, were you right.
LET US BEGIN.
It took me about 2 weeks to finish the first third of this book. It wasn’t that I didn’t like it- but I was a little bored and very ADHD. I was only able to read a few pages at a time. So basically – our lady Feyre is taken to reside at our fellow beastly dude Tamlin (High Lord of the Spring Court in a not-so lala fairytale land.) *because reasons* and off we go with our beauty and the beast story. The pacing was fairly slow… but I did what I do. I kept on keeping on.
Then things got interesting as they always do in a “festival” of sorts. We are introduced to some very……intriguing characters……errrrrr one in particular. *Cough* Rhysand *cough.*
Brittney’s interest was officially spiked. The pages started to turn faster..
Then dahdahdah a few things happen… I forgot about Rhys and stupidly didn’t pay attention to the little hints of chaosabout to unleash and I focused back on the beauty and the beast storyline.
THEN BAM. ENTER THE SECOND HALF OF THE BOOK.
I’m not gonna say much else other than holy freaking cow… you’ll be thrown for a loop. Everything changes. Everything. I. COULD. NOT. PUT. IT. DOWN. It was absolutely gut wrenching. It made my heart sick. It made me cringe, pant… you name it. And yes- those of you who know me well will know my ship. I can’t help it guys.
Just wow.
Lastly…
Dear readers, BE WARNED.
If you are not familiar with Maas’s writing; let me give you a warning. Guard. Your. Heart.
Be careful who you trust and who you let sink deep into your feelings. I’m not saying good or bad things happen to certain characters… but please know that Sarah has a way of changing things around — throwing the unexpected at you. She’s not afraid to rip into a character and send them down a spiraling pit of despair.
**BY THE WAY***
How’s about that little stunt Rhysand pulled at the end? Yoooooo… book two gonna be good.
*****UPDATE SINCE READING A COURT OF MIST AND FURY******
I have no words. This series has made it to the top of my list. The absolute top. For those of you who feel iffy about this series / have reservations /etc… please read my review of book 2. I hid the spoilery parts. I have NEVER been so moved by a book series in my life. Never.
